Junior Captain Adventure Cruise
Swap Screen Time for Adventure Time
Tuesday 7 July | 2.30 pm – 4.00 pm
Looking for a school holiday activity that’s a little different?
This winter, kids can become an Official Port Phillip Ferries Junior Captain and set off on a 90-minute adventure through Melbourne’s magnificent waterways. Armed with their very own Junior Captain Adventure Pack, they’ll solve clues, complete challenges, hunt for hidden treasures and help the captain navigate some of Melbourne’s busiest waterways.
The best part? They won’t even realise they’re learning along the way.
More Than Just a Boat Ride
The Junior Captain Adventure Cruise has been designed to keep kids engaged from the moment they step onboard until they return to Docklands. As the ferry cruises through the Port of Melbourne, under the Bolte Bridge and past some of the biggest ships in Victoria, children become part of the story rather than simply watching it unfold. It’s hands-on, interactive and packed with discoveries.
And best of all, it gets kids away from their screens and out exploring the real world.
Departing and returning from the Melbourne Ferry Terminal – 131 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands. Boardings opens 20 minutes prior to departure & closes 3 minutes prior. Please aim to arrive 45 minutes prior to departure so we can board efficiently.

Every child receives their official Junior Captain Adventure Pack, complete with their Treasure Map Activity Booklet, pencil pack and all the clues they’ll need to complete their mission.
2.30 pm – Cast Off and Set Sail
As the ferry departs Docklands, the Captain welcomes all Junior Captains onboard. The onboard commentator then explains the adventure and how to use the activity booklet.
2.40 pm – The Hunt Begins
Junior Captains begin working through their Treasure Map while keeping watch for giant container ships, tug boats, pilot boats, hidden marinas and Melbourne’s busy working harbour. Every sighting unlocks clues and helps complete the adventure. As the ferry cruises beneath the iconic Bolte and West Gate Bridges, Junior Captains tackle bridge challenges and discover fascinating facts about Melbourne’s waterways. Keep listening carefully because the answers to your Captain’s Questions could be revealed at any moment.
As the ferry loops around Williamstown and begins its journey back towards Docklands, the treasure hunt continues all the way back to Docklands where every Junior Captain receives:
