The Festival of Sails Geelong

Australia Day Long Weekend
Thursday 26 – Sunday 29 January 2023

First held in 1844, The Festival of Sails has consistently attracted the highest calibre of sailing craft and crew, family and friends, attracting over 100,000 visitors every January, held at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) and along the Geelong waterfront.

Take the ferry directly from Melbourne to make getting to this historical event as easy as possible. Head to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club across the January 26 public holiday weekend and enjoy 30 acts across 3 stages… and it’s all FREE!

Special Event 1 Hour Cruise

Visitors to Geelong and local families will have a unique opportunity to get up close to the finishing racing action of the iconic Festival of Sails Passage Race on Thursday, January 26 with a special one-hour cruise on the ‘Geelong Flyer’ ferry.

In a joint project with the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Port Phillip Ferries is providing one hour cruise leaving Steampacket Pier at 1.00 pm on Thursday 26 January. The cruise only costs $20 with all proceeds going to Geelong Connected Communities to support homeless youth in Geelong. The fully licenced onboard cafe will be fully stocked so there’ll be plenty of time for an afternoon beer or wine as you watch the winners sail in.

Free Live Music All Weekend

While the iconic Festival of Sails has long been known for its exciting action on the water, it’s also become a favourite entertainment destination over the January 26 public holiday weekend. Celebrate with music legends and emerging artists on the Geelong Waterfront. Being the 180th-anniversary milestone of the Passage Race, the entertainment lineup has been reinvented to appeal to a more diverse local and visiting audience.

Come down to the Royal Geelong Yacht Club to enjoy 30 acts across 3 stages!
