There’s so many great things to do when you arrive in either Portarlington or Geelong! Below are a few of our favourites.

Portarlington Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel has multiple dining areas serving a range of delicious pub style food with an open air beer garden if you just want a relaxing drink.

Only a short walk from the ferry terminal in Portarlington you can choose from the relaxed Atrium area which is an open-air beer garden-style space, or the Bisto and Frount Bar areas which are equally as impressive. There’s something for everyone when you visit this recently renovated hotel, however, one thing remains consistent, and that’s the fresh local produce and the welcoming relaxed atmosphere.

Portarlington Art Trail

With 14 unique artworks scattered around town this is a fun family outing of creative wonder.

The Portarlington Arts Trail is a must-see for art lovers, and getting there from Melbourne has never been easier with Port Phillip Ferries! ā›“ļø

Step off the ferry and dive straight into a creative wonderland, starting with the stunning welcome walkway mural and, of course, the iconic mussel sculptures 🦪✨. With over 14 unique artworks scattered along the trail, there’s plenty to discover!

Hop It The Bellarine

Port Phillip Ferries works in partnership with Hop It, a hop-on hop-off bus shuttle service that has launched on the Bellarine. Unlike standard food and wine tours, you choose your own adventure based on a carefully composed bus route that traverses through The Bellarine. Simply hop on and hop off wherever your wanderlust leads you.

Embrace the freedom to create your own itinerary – based on our insider-approved bus routes – then simply stop at whichever places take your fancy.

National Wool Museum

Geelong terminal: 3 min walk

The National Wool Museum is the only comprehensive museum of wool in Australia and aligned with Geelong’s UNESCO City of Design designation. Explore the regions 60,000 years of human endeavour and industry, from Australia’s first Nations living culture and heritage to emerging and advanced industries of today.

Add to the above there are always other exhibition showing at the National Wool Museum such as the Wildlife Photography and Pako Festa Exhibitions.

Geelong Botanic Gardens

The gardens areĀ free to enjoy and only a short walk from where the ferry pulls into Geelong’s Waterfront on weekends.

Perhaps one of Geelong’s best-kept secrets, the Botanic Gardens (located in Eastern Gardens) is a colourful plant collection full of amazing scents and textures. A renowned regional garden with peaceful surroundings and perfectly groomed lawns – it’s worth the walk. Featuring a great tea house where you can have a cuppa or a meal.

The Carousel

Sitting next to the Geelong Ferry Terminal, the Armitage-Herschell portable steam driven, hand-carved wooden carousel was constructed circa 1892 and is one of only 200 in operation around the world. Featuring 36 Dare horses and 2 chariots, it was purchased by the Steampacket Place Development Board in 1996 and painstakingly restored.

There’s something magical about the beautifully restored Carousel… that when you see it in real life it sparks the ā€˜kid’ in your heart. A whimsical ride on these hand-carved horses and chariots is a must-do for the kids (both big and little).
