Geelong’s 5 Most Instagrammable Hot Spots

When you step off Port Phillip Ferries and into Geelong, you step into a land of Insta magic.  Vibrant hues, contrasting landscapes and colourful characters, there is an Insta picture waiting to be snapped around every corner.  Check out five of our faves that are all located just a short stroll (if that) from the ferry berth.

This Insta sight comes spectacularly into view as we dock into Geelong…. The iconic Cunningham Pier.  Get your cameras handy because you can start to capture this 1850s beauty from the water and then again with your feet on dry land.  Open to the public, you can wander along the planks, peek over the edge at the fish below and even dine off it at the deliciously delectable Wah Wah Gee.

One location, so many Insta opportunities!  Eastern Beach Geelong presents a plethora of picture prospects.  There’s the boardwalk that winds its way over the bay, past the diving platforms, floating islands and sea bath; The elegant art deco water fountains and features; The lush terraced lawn; the magnificent descending staircase.  Eastern Beach will compel you to capture it and entice you to enjoy it, so make sure your camera is handy and your bathers packed.

Scattered, strewn and spaced across Geelong are the infamous Bollards; iconic Geelong characters fashioned from old timbers and piles of the city pier.  From lifesavers to bathing beauties to sailors to nurses, there are more than 100 guys and gals for you to meet, greet and snap a selfie with.  Meet one or meet them all, the Geelong Bollard Trail Walk sensationally showcases all of these characters.

Magnificently dominating the Geelong skyline is the Giant Sky Wheel; the largest travelling Ferris wheel in the Southern Hemisphere.  Set up on the Geelong foreshore, you can stand at the base of this beauty and snap skywards or climb aboard and capture landscapes of bay, beach and city.  Whatever angle you snap it from, you have yourself an incredible Insta post.

A short walk from the ferry berth is the towering street art piece of The Unknown Mariner; a dynamic mural dedicated to the maritime history of Geelong.  Geelong actually lays claim to many more of these creative, free-to-view exhibitions.  Inspirational artists have set about artfully designing and decorating walls, buildings and laneways of Geelong.  The Unknown Mariner plus many more spirited street art installations can be found and photographed on the Central Geelong Wall Art Trail.
