It’s A Battle Of The Bays This Father’s Day

a group of people standing in front of a building

Dads, they really do love a bit of ‘all-in competition’, a bit of ‘who will reign supreme?’  Not wanting to disappoint good old Dad this Father’s Day, we’ve come up with “A Battle of the Bays”.  Docklands vs. Portarlington.

That infamous saying ‘anything you can do, I can do better’ certainly rings true with regard to this competition.  What one side of the bay can do, so can the other.  For each experience to be had on one side, there seems to be a doppelganger on the other.  We wanted to lay it all out for you and then let you decide… what side of the bay will you celebrate Father’s Day on?  The decision will be fun but it certainly won’t be easy.

Father’s Day at The Woolshed

Does your dad enjoy a good feed, a tipple and a spectacular view?  Well, then Father’s Day at The Woolshed will be right up his alley.  Set on the Docklands Waterfront, The Woolshed offers up magnificent harbour views, couple that with their Father’s Day menu and you will have yourself one very happy Dad.  Pop a cherry on top of that with a complimentary gift given to all dads on the day!

Father’s Day at Terindah Estate

Dad will love the gastronomical delights that Terindah Estate is serving up this Father’s Day.  A specially designed three-course set menu lunch can be enjoyed at the picturesque estate.  Dad will relax right into Father’s Day with a wine in hand, soaking up the views across the open vines and Port Phillip Bay.

Pamper Session at Bellarine Day Spa Retreat

Set exclusively and very privately in Portarlington, the Bellarine Day Spa will make Dad feel like he has been on the most relaxing of holidays.  Bellarine Day Spa offers both Retreat Packages (like the couples getaway package that will see dad and his significant other staying a night in one of their luxurious rooms and indulging in a 2-hour massage session) and a plethora of day treatments (including facials, cocoon wraps, massages, manicures, pedicures and so much more).  And in true Bellarine style, they also have an on-site vineyard called “Heard it through the Grapevine Vineyard”.  Sounds spectacular right!

Pamper Session at Crown

Treat your Dad to the ultimate in luxury spas at Crown Spa Melbourne.  Their treatment menu oozes indulgence.  Select a therapy from their ‘For Him’ menu.  Options include hydrating facial, grooming services, therapeutic massage or a whole package just for him.  You can also choose a treatment from their extensive overall menu.  Options include deep tissue massage, body wrap, manicure or private spa time.  After all, dads love to be pampered.

Coodabeen Champions at The Arts Centre

Is your Dad a tad footy mad?  Then he is going to love Coodabeen Champions at The Arts Centre and how very fitting that it is a Father’s Day performance!  The legendary ABC radio team are hitting the stage with all their best stories and songs about the mighty game of AFL, all of which will be open to their witty interpretation.  Really earn your brownie points and pre-order a half-time Angus beef pie and icy cold beer for dear old Dad.

The Blues Train

Now, this is entertainment that will have Dad up on his feet and dancing to the beat, the rhythm and blues beat!  Dad will absolutely love experiencing The Blues Train (there is one scheduled and ready for departure on Father’s Day Eve).  The lineup is set to explode with Anna Scionti (featuring Eddy Boyle), John McNamara, Sammy Owen Blues Band AND Safari Motel.  Make sure you secure dad’s seat on this ride-of-a-lifetime, as tickets sell fast.

An overnighter at Portarlington or The Docklands

Dad deserves more than one day of celebrations in his honour, why not make a weekend out of it.  A very simple and very comfortable ferry ride away is a treasure trove of accommodation options.  We have made it so very easy for you too, highlighting Portarlington accommodation options and Docklands accommodation options.  Dad can then set about exploring The Big Smoke or The Bellarine Coastline.

A Bevvie at The James Hotel

For the dads that have a thirst that needs quenching, a bevvie at The James Hotel is ideal.  The hotel is infamous for their wide range of hand-crafted beers on tap.  Think Dad may have a tough time deciding on just one, then treat him to the tasting paddle.  The paddle offers a smorgasbord of six James Squires beers (from an amber ale through to a swindler).  Pair the golden elixir with a classic parma, steak or one of the many other options from their extensive and delicious lunch and dinner menu.

A Bevvie at The Whiskery

For the dads that love to sit and sip, take him on over to the very cool and very first distillery on the Bellarine, The Whiskery.  Converted from an original farm shed, the Distillery is rustic and the real deal when it comes to a spirited experience, serving up their very own distilled Gin (Teddy and the Fox), along with whisky, local wines, beers and ciders.  You can even pick Dad up a very special Father’s Day gift at the cellar door.

When all is said and done and both sides of the bay are laid out in front of you, there really is no comparison.  Both sides offer their own unique and personalised experience for Father’s Day.  So while a clear winner of Battle of the Bays has not reigned supreme, there is one thing we know for certain.  Port Phillip Ferries will be there to transport you in comfort and style to the Best Father’s Day ever!
