Discover Geelong’s Carousel

Quick Details

A Retreat to the Golden Age

Just a short stroll from our ferry terminal at Geelong’s Steampacket Quay sits a golden piece of history, and from Monday 22 June all are welcome back to spend some magical time with this beauty.

Nestled within the famous purpose-built glass pavilion is The Carousel: a hand-carved, 36 horse, wooden carousel. This iconic carousel was constructed in 1892 and is one of only 200 still in operation around the world.

And it’s had a past. From New York in the 1890s, to Mordialloc Pier in the 1920s (and who knows where in between), to its restoration in 1996 and final reveal in 1999.

Each horse took 300 hours to restore to their former glory and to reveal the vibrant colourways and decorations seen today.

It’s guaranteed fun for all ages, and a neat little retreat to the Golden Age.
