Festival of Sails 2020
January 25 @ 8:00 am - January 27 @ 5:00 pm
Australia’s biggest celebration of sailing – Festival of Sails – is only a ferry ride away this summer.
Held along Geelong’s magnificent waterfront over the Australia Day long weekend, Festival of Sails is the largest annual keel boat regatta in the Southern Hemisphere.
Port Phillip Ferries’ new Geelong service delivers you right to the Geelong Waterfront, the location for Australia’s oldest sporting event. The annual three-day festival from January 25 to 27, 2020 attracts more than 100,000 people to the Geelong Waterfront.
Step off the ferry from Melbourne and within minutes you can be enjoying all of the action and excitement of the iconic Festival of Sails. On-shore, get ready to soak up the atmosphere with the 2020 event featuring a smorgasbord of exciting activations and experiences along the waterfront, including Steampacket Gardens. Highlights of the family-friendly Waterfront Festival will include live entertainment across three stages and “come and try” activities such as discover sailing and virtual reality sailing. The festival runs over the three days with entertainment into the evening.
A multitude of stallholders will provide you with fine food and wine as well as arts and crafts. Other activities will include face painting and roving performers. There will also be an Australia Day fireworks display.
Celebrating its 177th year in 2020, Festival of Sails is older than Wimbledon, The Ashes, The Melbourne Cup and the modern Olympics. Organised by the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC), the Festival of Sails caters for all levels of sailing, from high performance racing yachts to family cruisers. The iconic regatta attracts as many as 300 yacht entries and 3,000 competitors from around Australia and overseas.
A full entertainment schedule will be announced on the Festival of Sails website soon.
Festival of Sails kicks off on January 25, 2020 with the historic Melbourne to Geelong Passage Race.
