The great thing about Portarlington is that everything is close by. It’s easy to access all the essentials, and finding a place to lay your head is pretty simple to do.

No there aren’t any large hotels or resorts, but that’s what sort of gives the town charm. But there are heaps of Airbnb’s, traditional B & B’s and most of the real estate agents have a great list of holiday homes to rent. Try Stockdale & Leggo and GC Downard.

Portarlington also lays claim to the largest caravan park in the Southern Hemisphere. We haven’t cross checked those facts, but we’ll take it. Book into Bellarine Bayside Holiday Park and take a scenic 10-minute walk along the beach to get there from Portarlington Pier. Book a cabin or pitch a tent, and if you possibly bought too much luggage to carry on a walk, you can book the Bongo to give you a lift.

When you arrive at Portarlington Pier you might spy the Portarlington Beach Motel courtesy bus. They have 17 units, some with spa, family units and a pool for all to enjoy. If you feel like stretching the legs, give them your luggage and walk there. It would take about 15 minutes along the main street, or walk along the esplanade for the best views, and then turn up Batman street to get there.

Many of the holiday rentals in Portarlington have incredible views over Port Phillip Bay. The higher up you walk, the greater the reward. If staying within Portarlington you can easily get around on foot to the main street, the foreshore and back to the ferry.

One of the favourite walks is to head along the foreshore, taking in sights of the You Yangs and the Melbourne city skyline. Go as long or short as you like. You should reach Indented Head in just over on hour, and if you’re keen, keep heading to St Leonards.

For the history buffs, they have it all mapped out. This walk is designed for all abilities. The complete walk around the town will take around one to one and a half hours with a few steep inclines. Head to the Portarlington Tourism Information booth at the Rotunda in the main street for more information on walks, accommodation and everything in between. The beautiful volunteers will do all they can to welcome you to Portarlington.
