FAQs

How long is the journey?
Approximately 90 minutes between Portarlington and Docklands.

How do I purchase tickets?

We recommend buying your tickets on line to ensure you don't miss out on a seat. This is particularly important for weekends, public holidays or school holidays. You can buy tickets at the Portarlington Post Office within it's opening hours. We do currently sell tickets on board if you were unable to purchase them on line, but it is at your own risk if the vessel is already full. When you buy a ticket you do not have to print it. We can scan it from your phone if you can access the email confirmation.

How does the seating work?

When you book a ticket on line you are guaranteed a seat. You are not allocated a seat so you can chose where you want to be seated once you board. There are 300 seats on the lower deck and 100 seats on the upper deck which are accessed by stairs. The upper deck also provides access to our open deck where passengers can step outside for the fresh air or happy snaps. There are no booked seats for the open deck. We only sell up to 400 tickets. You will never have to stand up on any journey.

Can we take wheelchairs or motorised scooters on board?

We can facilitate wheelchairs on board the ferry, however we do have limited capacity of up to 4 at any given time. Our temporary berthing arrangements at Portarlington makes it unsafe to provide access to motorised scooters. We hope to be able to safely board (a limited capacity) of motorised scooters upon completion of the Portarlington ferry pontoon later this year. When making the booking on line please make note of the number of wheelchairs. We accept companion card and we look forward to having you on board.

Where are the nearest public transport options at Docklands?
The free City Circle Tram (35) as well as number 30, 70 and 75 tram services are available from Harbour Esplanade in front of Etihad Stadium. Tram number 11 and 48 are available in close proximity to the corner of Merchant St and Collins St. Southern Cross Railway station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the ferry berthing area. Find more information on our location here.

Where can I park at either end of the journey?

In Portarlington there is ample all day parking within close proximity to the Portarlington Pier where we depart. This parking is all free. For commuters wanting to park all day we recommend parking in Hendersons Reserve just in front of the bowls club. For parking around Docklands we recommend taking a look at this website for the options in that area. You simply enter what date and times you are looking for parking and it will recommend the best options.

Is there a café on board?

Plans are being made and we hope to have one running sometime in 2017. You are welcome to buy a coffee or drink prior to boarding to enjoy on board. There are a few cafes in Portarlington where you can buy coffee before getting on board and we particularly like the coffee at Blended Beard, in Bourke St, Docklands. Oh and you should really try a hot chocolate at Wawa Chocolatier just near the library at Docklands

Can I take a bicycle on board – is there any extra charge?
We can accept a limited number of bicycles at the discretion of the crew and at the risk of the owner. The maximum capacity is 15 bicycles. You must indicate the number of bicycles via the booking page. You must arrive 20 minutes prior to departure to allow time to load the bicycles. We are investigating the safe travel of additional bicycles to be transported on board for the near future but currently the transport of the bicycle is at the owners risk.

Can I take luggage on board?

We do have luggage racks where you can leave your luggage for the duration of the journey.

Can I take my pet on board?
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted on board the vessel. No other pets or animals are allowed.

What happens in the event that the ferry service has been delayed or cancelled?

Customers will be advised as soon as any decisions are made to adjust the schedule via our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels.
